#thinkb44uink - Your Healing

You have waited 6 months for your tattoo, you have come to a fantastic artist, the sitting went well and you have parted with a bit of dollar.

A good artist with fantastic execution is, however, only part of what makes a great tattoo. Much of how your tattoo turns out lies with you and your aftercare.

We always suggest leaving the cling wrap on for three hours. After removing this, you get the tattoo clean with a perfume free soap (Protex gentle is a great brand). Let the tattoo air dry and apply a thin layer of Bepanthen or white camphor cream. Both of these are available at most pharmacies. Over the healing period we like you to keep it moisturised 3 times a day with Bepanthen. This is dry healing. We will chat wet healing in a seperate post.

If you use the wrong products or don’t keep the tattoo moisturised and clean, you run the risk of infection or at the very least, the ink pulling out. We have seen the most beautiful tattoos come back to us needing massive reworks.

Don’t roll around in the dust at a festival the weekend after your tattoo, don’t sit in other people’s sweat in a sauna, don’t let people at the club run their hands over it and don’t use a dirty towel to dry it. Give it even more respect than you might any other wound of that size. 2 weeks is a relatively short time to be cautious in order to keep your tattoo looking fantastic for a life time.

After you leave the store, we count on you to make our work look amazing. If you are unsure if something is normal or not, give your artist a call straight away so that they can set your mind at ease.
